With the school year well underway, the Arkansas State University Music Department is preparing to host auditions for yet another ensemble: the Howlers pep band, which performs at A-State basketball and volleyball games. The energetic Howlers are hoping to add a handful of drum set players to their official roster and sub roster for the 2022-2023 year, which will include most if not all home basketball and volleyball games as well as the Sun Belt Championship tournament in Pensacola, FL. The auditions will take place on September 15 at 10:30am in Fine Arts Center room 142. Those interested in auditioning should contact Dr. Steven Riley, Director of Athletic Bands, at striley@astate.edu.
The drum set audition requirements are as follows:
-Play along with recordings of the A-State Fight Song and excerpts from Band Chant 1, Shout It Out, and Hold On I'm Comin'.
-Play Groove 4 Fast (page 27) from the Tommy Igoe "Groove Essentials" book, with fills
-Play Groove 13 Fast Funk (page 47) from the Igoe book, with fills
